Joinville - CEFORM Homiletics module - 3,4 March 2007
Joinville - the largest city and industrial hub of Santa Catarina, the size of Manchester, with a big wrought iron works, and the home to TVR cars in South America, Joinville is very green and pretty. This view of part of the south of the city does not show the bigger industrial area to the north, but even there, the factories have been built since the beginnings of ecological consciousness, and are heavily greenified.

Andrew left Floripa at 6.30 a.m. on Saturday to be in Joinville for class with the Renewed Baptists from 8.30. With a break for lunch, the day went on to nearly 7 in the evning, and then again four hours on Sunday morning. An excellent group - mainly charismatic Baptists with a few Lutherans. Once again it is striking how much easier it is for us to relate to the Renewed Baptists than the main Baptist Convention in Santa Catarina - talk of predestination does not raise hackles, but rather thanksgiving.

The Class

Sílvio, Meire, Gabriel and Camila, with whom I stayed. The oldest daughter, Juliana, is not pictured. This Lutheran family, converted in the charismatic renewal, are caught up in a huge ecclesiastical battle in Brazilian lutheranism, and are on the point of leaving for the Renewed Baptists. Interestingly, one sticking point is baptism, but underlying this is the clear preaching of the real gospel.

The moon turned to blood.
While in Joinville the full eclipse of the moon occurred. After 100 or so attempts, squeezing the camera onto lamp-posts and other street furniture for the one second exposure, I finally managed this one, on a spiked gate.
